Three year old Daphne is the daughter of "Rabbi" Gershom Sizomu, a leader of the Abayudaya community. "Rabbi" Gershom is also headmaster of the community's Semei Kakungulu High School. Kakungulu High is the first Jewish high school in the Mbale region of Uganda. While the Semei Kakungulu high school is open to children of all religions, Abayudaya students feel comfortable learning in an environment where the primary classroom doubles as a synagogue, where all students are able to study Hebrew, and where in December at the school year's closing ceremony their Jewish headmaster can greet the students by saying, "Merry Christmas, Happy Ramadan and Happy Chanukah."
